Even though I'm the mother to 2 kiddos I was still a bit worried about babysitting Meredith ALL BY MYSELF. She is such an mellow baby, I was worried that if she cried the whole time I would know it was my fault. She was great. We played, she pooped, I changed her diaper, she drank a bottle, we rocked, she slept, woke up 45 minutes later, then Katherine returned. Meredith smiled once of twice, too. Take a look!.
They may even let me do this again.
Here's what we've been up to - I've copied an e-mail that I sent out to family
Happy President's Day to all!
I turned 31 today. You would think that turning 30 would be harder, but this one is hitting me hard. I've started to forget things, wear eye cream, and take fiber. It's all unavoidable now!
I had a lovely birthday weekend and took the kids up to visit Grandma and Grandpa in Bellingham. While it was my birthday weekend, I did bring up dinner and desert (brownies, of course).
The funniest part of the day was getting my birthday "present" from Dad, if you can call it that. The card was funny and signed (nice), but then Dad handed me 2 Starbucks cards and a $20. He didn't know how much were on the cards (one had a sticker that said $5) and the $20 was all the cash he had. Nice. Mom and I got a hearty laugh at that. Dad's response, "I thought you liked Starbucks!" and I told him that I knew those cards were given to him, since I already tried to take him out of them at Christmas!! Now the REALLY sad part is that when I registered the card online so I could check the balance - it had already been used! So he gave me a regifted and used Starbucks gift card for $16.84.
The Puget Sound area was hit with a HUGE wind and rain storm yesterday. Almost 2 million homes were without power at the height of the storm. Power went back on for us today around 1:30 pm, after about 18 hours of outage. We're lucky, since the new development to the back of us still doesn't have power. We've lent some power to our backyard neighbors via a very long extension cord!
We awoke to snow on the ground Sunday morning. We got the kids all bundled up and Rob took them out in the snow. The made a snowman and trekked around the yard. They had a blast.
It snowed on and off most of the day - and it's pretty darn cold outside. There's about 3-4 inches on the ground. We're supposed to get some more tonight - hopefully not too much - I don't want to have to drive to work in it.
We traveled down to Portland on Thanksgiving Day, thinking we'd miss the horrible traffic of the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, we got caught behind an accident. A trip that should take 3 hours took 4.5 hours. Not fun - especially since we didn't want the kids to nap. The last 45 minutes was spent desperately keeping them awake.
We arrived at Vicki's and got the kids down for their nap. After they woke up we all went to Paul's for the Thanksgiving meal. His parent were in town from Phoenix, so he wanted to host. Poor guy had to feed all of us, PLUS Lily and Werner. Everything was awesome. Cameron loved EVERYTHING - turkey, stuffing, salad, gravy, potatoes. Grayson - not so much. Paul was nice enough to make him some mac and cheese.
On Friday, Vicki and Rob went to Corvallis to watch the Oregon-Oregon State Civil War game. The returned wet and cold but the Beavers were victorious. The kids and I hung around the house and went to the grocery store. Fun.
The trip back on Saturday was uneventful, thank goodness. Rob's beginning to really appreciate his new job with all the perks - this is the first time in 18 years he didn't have to work on the day after Thanksgiving!
